Capacity Development and Institutional Change Programme (CD&IC)

The Capacity Development and Institutional Change (CD&IC) Programme is a Wageningen UR wide, internationally focused initiative that supports the application Wageningen’s knowledge and expertise to the challenges of sustainable development.

Meeting the challenges of sustainable development and realising the Millenium Development Goals requires the coupling of technological innovation with institutional innovation and societal change.  Supporting organizations and individuals to achieve such interdisciplinary and holistic strategies for change to is the core business of the CD&IC Programme.  To do this, the Programme integrates the specialist expertise of Wageningen UR with expertise on innovation and learning processes and capacity development for individual, organizational and social change.

Working in partnership with public agencies, civil society organisations and businesses, the Programme is focused on the food, agriculture, rural development and natural resource management sectors.

Institutional innovation involves the transformation of legal and policy frameworks, cultural attitudes, market structures, business practices, public sector performance and governance mechanisms.  This calls for highly interactive forms of knowledge generation and learning in which science and politics can meet and where policy makers, practitioners and researchers can engage in dialogue and forge collective action.  The CD&IC Programme designs, facilitates and develops capacity for such multi-stakeholder processes.
